Some clarification is necessary since an internship is often defined differently by students and leaders within the business world.   Students usually regard an internship as an experience in which you can gain academic credit while paying full college tuition.  Internships are a broad category for diverse experiences which are not limited by being related to your studies or including tuition.  The business field benefits through internships providing a means to "trial run" prospective applicants.  It is an opportunity to employ on a short term basis without having to provide benefits, such as insurance.  Often internships have the potential to lead for later full time employment.

Important Internship Questions:

1.  Does the agency require its interns to receive college credit?

2.  Do you need additional academic credit in order to graduate?  If so...   How many?  (i.e. There is no need to pay for
six credits if you only need three credits.)

3.  In order to be covered by your parent's insurance policy is it necessary for you to remain enrolled as a student?
(This is especially pertinent to longer term experiences.)
