U. S. Forest Service STUDENT TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (STEP):  This link will get you two pages of instructions (Rich Text Format file that you can read/print with MS Word) on how to apply for TEMPORARY (summer) EMPLOYMENT  positions.  I STRONGLY suggest that you right click on the link and use "save target as" to copy the file to your own directory for later viewing and/or printing.  You'll want a copy in your hand as you proceed through the application process.

U. S Forest Service - Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) and Student Career Experience Program (SCEP):  You'll find Information and a site for applying online.  Applicants are STRONGLY encouraged to apply early, as Homeland Security issues are expected to lengthen the hiring process.

Federal Interagency Fire Jobs:  The Department of Interior’s (DOI) Fire Integrated Recruitment Employment Systems (FIRES) is a computerized employment application processing system, which electronically prescreens candidates and ranks them according to specified criteria. FIRES lets you search for available seasonal wildland fire jobs within DOI; create, edit, and archive your electronic resume; and apply for specific jobs online! FIRES also provides you with an opportunity to establish criteria to identify the type(s) of jobs you are interested in, and will then notify you with an email message when that kind of job is open and accepting applications.

Bureau of Land Management (non-fire):  CURRENTLY INACTIVE.  An online application service for both student TEMPORARY (STEP) and Student CAREER (SCEP) experience programs.  Register, view jobs, build an application and receive email notice of pending opportunities!  BLM Temporary jobs are also posted on web pages sponsored by the agency in several states.  These pages ARE active!: Colorado Idaho Alaska Nevada
