To Request Admission to a DBE Major, Request Pre-Major Status or select a Minor
Starting Fall 2009, the Division of Business & Economics is implementing a formal admissions policy for majors in Accounting, Business Administration and Economics. You must be admitted to your DBE major to register for some upper-level courses and to graduate with an Accounting, Business Administration or Economics major.
If you are not far enough along in your studies to qualify for admission to the major, we highly recommend that you request “pre-major” status. This will ensure that you receive specialized advising from the Division Advising Office and regular updates on events and deadlines.
Current DBE policy states that you must apply for admission to the major before you complete 18 credits towards the major.
You are encouraged to apply once you have completed 9-10 credits in the major. You can check the online catalog for the recommended courses for each major. Note: this includes all courses counting towards your major including courses from other departments as well as from the Division of Business & Economics.
If you are a transfer student, you should apply before you complete 18 credits in the Business Administration major OR during your first semester at UWSP.
If you are switching majors within the Division of Business & Economics or adding a second major, you may apply even if you already have over 18 credits in the new major, as long as you have met all other admission requirements.
You may request admission or pre-major status for any DBE Major or declare a DBE Minor by filling out the DBE Admissions form and taking the form with a current Degree Progress Report to the DBE Office in CPS 422 or the DBE Advising Office in CPS 476.
The Admissions deadline for Fall 2009 is Monday October 5th.
Special Form for Undeclared Students with a DBE Major already in progress
The above policy requires that students apply for admission to their DBE major (Accounting, Business Administration, Economics) prior to completing 18 credits in that major. Existing majors with over 18 credits have been grandfathered in and have been accepted or granted provisional status.
We realize that there may be some students who have not yet declared their DBE major and therefore were not automatically accepted. Because of this, we have a temporary moratorium on the 18 credit rule. If you are taking the coursework for a major in Accounting, Business Administration or Economics but you have not declared the major please download the Special Application Form to request Pre-Major Status or to apply for Admission to the major and to declare a minor.
The Admissions deadline for Fall 2009 is Monday October 5th.
To Drop a DBE Major or Minor
You may drop a DBE Major or Minor be contacting the DBE Advising Office (CPS 476).
To Declare a Concentration within Business
You must already be a Business major in good standing to declare the following concentrations:
If you are already a declared Business Administration major, and you wish to add any of these areas of concentration, you will need to meet with your advisor. After discussing your options, your advisor can sign the necessary paperwork, which you must then deliver to the DBE Advising Office (CPS 476). The Concentration--Business Adm. handout will describe these concentrations.

If a limited number of seats are available, preference is given to students who need the class to graduate.
To get permission to repeat a class, email the DBE Chair on the last day of registration. Registration dates can be found on the Registration page in Registration and Records.
Credit Overload
University policy for overloads may be found on the Study Overload section of the Records & Registration web page. To get permission to take 18, 19 or 20 credits in a regular semester or more than 1 credit per week in the summer, you should contact the DBE program assistant to make an appointment with the department Chair. You will need to have at least a 3.0 GPA in both your major and overall to receive permission.
