EconomicsWisconsin is the provider of the Wisconsin Stock Market Simulation. Students throughout Wisconsin have participated in our program since 1989. During that period of time,  many innovative classroom activities have been developed by teacher advisors to effectively and creatively integrate the Game into the classroom. The Distinguished Advisor Award is designed to provide recognition to a full-time teacher advisor for outstanding classroom use of the Simulation and for stimulating creative integration of the Simulation into Wisconsin classrooms.

Who Is Eligible?   (Back)
Any Wisconsin Stock Market Simulation full-time teacher advisor is eligible to apply for the Award.  To be considered, the Game activity must have taken place during the 2001-2002 school year.  The entry may be submitted any time during the school year, but must be received by May 15, 2002.  

What Are The Judging Criteria?   (Back)  
Successful programs 

*Encourage students to use economic reasoning to understand how our economy works.
*Are innovative and exciting in approach.
*Fit the context of the school curriculum.
*Are appropriate to students
*Are adaptable for use by other teachers.
*Are accurate and completely described.
*Include appropriate evaluation to provide evidence of success. What Will The Winners Receive


What will The Winners Receive?   (Back)
The winning teacher will receive a $750 cash prize.
The winning teacher will also receive an expense paid trip to New York City to attend the NYSE Teacher Workshop held during the summer of 2002. The five-day Teacher Workshop is designed to:
  • Provide educators with a thorough understanding of the capital-raising process, the NYSE agency auction market, regulation and technology.
  • Increase teacher ability to include the stock market across curriculum disciplines.
  • Provide supporting materials and skills for classroom instruction.

Speakers are drawn from the NYSE staff and constituents and utilize lecture-discussion sessions, support materials, hands-on activities, and field trips.   Educational workshops supplement each day�s activities providing an opportunity to share experiences and methodologies.

 

When Will The Award Be Given?    (Back)
The teacher (and spouse) and one school representative will be the guests of  EconomicsWisconsin  at the July, 2002 Council Board of Directors� Meeting held in Milwaukee.  The teacher will receive the sponsor�s recognition of winning the Award along with the prizes.

 

What Should An Entry Include?    (Back)
Each entry must be typed double-spaced on standard 8� x 11 inch paper. Photographs, project activities and materials that can be contained in a standard 8� x 11 notebook may be included.  

Grade Level: Indicate clearly the specific grade level(s) involved.  This program is for teachers of grades K-12. 
Rationale:   Include a statement of why this project is important. 
Goals and Objectives:   State the purpose of the program including a clear description of the economic ideas which are taught.

 

Evaluation     (Back)
Describe how you assessed student mastery of the economic concepts addressed in your activity.  Summarize the evidence you have that students have achieved the objectives of your lesson.

Please be sure to include the name(s) of the entrant(s) exactly as it would appear on a certificate. Also provide the name of the school principal, superintendent and your home telephone number.
