Who Should Attend:
Middle School and junior high mathematics instructors at public or private schools. No previous education or training in economics is required.

Description:
Mathematics educators will be introduced to lessons showing how mathematical concepts and processes may be applied to the study of economics and personal finance. Teachers will receive resources to help their students connect mathematics to practical problems and issues that they will encounter through their lifetimes as savers, investors, consumers, workers, and informed citizens.

This teacher-training workshop is a collaborative effort of university economics faculty and middle school mathematics practitioners in association with the National Council on Economic Education and EconomicsWisconsin.

• Workshop participants will receive a free copy of "Mathematics & Economics: Connections for Life" appropriate for grade levels of the workshop they attend.  The book contains complete, self-contained lessons which connect mathematics and economics.
• This book is designed to help math teachers answer the proverbial questions asked by students, "Why do I have to learn this? Am I ever going to use it?"
• Lessons in the text are aligned with the National Standards for Mathematics and the National Standards for Economics.
• Lessons will use grade appropriate concepts such as Algebra, Percentages, Geometry, Graphing, Numbers and Operations, Problem Solving, and Data Analysis and Probability.
• No previous education or experience in economics is required.
