World Population Change: Boom or Bust?

On November 11, 2000, the campus radio station at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point broadcast an interview with two professors on the subject of world population change.  Professor Robert Enright of the UW-SP department of sociology emphasized the extremely rapid growth of world population in recent decades, while Professor Lawrence Weiser of the UW-SP economics department stressed the significant decrease in fertility rates throughout most countries in the world.  Please click on the link below to listen to this 25 minute interview.  You will need RealPlayer to play this audio file.  The RealPlayer is available for free, at the Real.com web site.

This interview was based on a presentation made by Enright and Weiser on March 31, 2000 at the annual conference of the Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies in Appleton, Wisconsin.

A related presentation that emphasized the economic aspects of world population change was made by Weiser and Professor George Langelett, Department of Economics at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, in Savannah, Georgia on October 13, 2000 at the annual conference of the National Association of Economic Educators.
