World Population Change: Boom or Bust?

On November 11, 2000, the campus radio station at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point broadcast an interview with two professors on the subject of world population change. Professor Robert Enright of the UW-SP department of sociology emphasized the extremely rapid growth of world population in recent decades, while Professor Lawrence Weiser of the UW-SP economics department stressed the significant decrease in fertility rates throughout most countries in the world. This interview was based on a presentation made by Enright and Weiser on March 31, 2000 at the annual conference of the Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies in Appleton, Wisconsin.

A related presentation that emphasized the economic aspects of world population change was made by Weiser and Professor George Langelett, Department of Economics at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, in Savannah, Georgia on October 13, 2000 at the annual conference of the National Association of Economic Educators.
