Dr.
Chandini
Sankaran
joined UWSP in 2005, the same year that she received her Ph.D. in
Economics from Kansas
State
University
(Fields Economic Growth and Labor Economics, GPA: 3.9).
She also received her Masters Degree in Economics from KSU in
2000 (Field: Monetary Economics, GPA: 3.9). She has taught
approximately 3,000 students at KSU over a 7-year period.
The high regard that students place on her teaching abilities
is reflected by the KSU Department of Economics 2002 and 2004
undergraduate teaching excellence awards.
On the day she defended her dissertation, she pledged her
support to KSU in a way she believes that no other Ph.D. graduate
has (ask her how). Her
interest in Economic Development originates from the first 18 years
of her life spent in
Malaysia.
Her interest in Business Economics stems from her
undergraduate training in Business & Economics (GPA: 3.9), the MBA
classes that she took while pursuing her Economics graduate degree,
and her professional experience in Malaysia.
Her full-time job experiences include working as a Management
Trainee for an International Hotel Chain and as an Administrator at
the Embassy of Ecuador in Malaysia.
Since joining UWSP, Dr. Sankaran has been keeping herself
busy writing grants, authoring papers, and
presenting at professional conferences.
In the 2007-08 academic year, she will be
involved in the Teaching Partnership
Program, the Teaching Innovations Program (active learning in
Economics), and will serve as the Co-Chair of the Equity and
Affirmative Action Committee.
Dr. Sankaran is enthusiastic about working with UW-Oshkosh to
investigate the possibility of setting up a student exchange program
in
Lima, Peru.
This program will
not only involve students taking classes during a semester abroad
but will give an opportunity for students to gain experience
actively managing an economic development project.
Dr. Sankaran is fluent in three languages and is currently
picking up her fourth.
During her free time,
she enjoys spending time with her 7-year old son, swimming or
exploring the beautiful state of Wisconsin.
