Declare an SBE major or minor

If you are new to the School of Business and Economics, declare an SBE major or minor by downloading and submitting this form to the SBE Peer Advising Office (CPS 415).

Declaring the major will give you pre-major status. You will receive personalized advising through our peer advising program. As a declared major you will also receive correspondence from SBE faculty and staff.

Admission to an SBE major

The School of Business and Economics has a formal admissions policy for majors in accounting, business administration and economics. You must be admitted to your SBE major to register for some upper-level courses and to graduate with an accounting, business administration and economics major.

If you are not far enough along in your studies to qualify for admission to the major, we highly recommend that you request “pre-major” status by declaring an SBE major (see section above). This will ensure that you receive specialized advising from the SBE Advising Office and regular updates on events and deadlines.

Current SBE policy states that you must apply for admission to the major once you complete between 10-18 credits toward the major.

You are encouraged to apply once you have completed at least 10 credits in the major. You can check the online catalog for the recommended courses for each major. Note: this includes all courses that count toward your major including courses from other departments, as well as from the School of Business and Economics.

If you are a transfer student, you should apply before you complete 18 credits in the SBE major OR during your first semester at UWSP.

If you are switching majors within the School of Business and Economics or adding a second major, you may apply even if you already have over 18 credits in the new major, as long as you have met all other admission requirements.

To request admission to any SBE major, you must submit an application and degree progress report. The Spring 2013 Application is now open and is due to the SBE Advising offices (CPS 413 or 415) by Friday, March 1.

Change or drop an SBE major or minor

You may change or drop an SBE major or minor by downloading and submitting the Change-Add Major or Minor form to the SBE Peer Advising Office (CPS 415).

Pre-Register for Permission Required Courses

If you would like to take a permission required business course you must submit this pre-registration form. All forms must be submitted along with all necessary materials (including your degree progress report) to the SBE Advising office (CPS 413) by March 22. A form will need to be submitted for each permission required course. If you have any questions, refer to this informational  presentation.

You may change or drop an SBE major or minor by downloading and submitting the Change-Add Major or Minor form to the SBE Peer Advising Office (CPS 415).

Add your name to an SBE waitlist

Download the SBE Waitlist Form.
After you have registered:
1) Fill out the form.
2) Attach a new DPR and Class Schedule.
3) Return the form with attachments to: the SBE Advising office - CPS 413.

Repeating a class

You may only repeat a class if you earned a D or an F in that class. Permission to repeat an SBE course needs to be received by your advisor and the department. This is normally granted on or after the last day of registration. You may request an exception if you are a graduating senior. If a limited number of seats are available, preference is given to students who need the class to graduate.

To get permission to repeat a class, contact your advisor. Registration dates can be found on the Registration page in Registration and Records.

Credit overload

University policy for overloads may be found on the Study Overload section of the Records and Registration web page. To get permission to take 18, 19 or 20 credits in a regular semester or more than 1 credit per week in the summer, you should email the Asst. Dean of Students Prof. Marty Meyers to make an appointment. You will need to have at least a 3.0 GPA in both your major and overall to receive permission.
