Advisers who help BUILD YOUR DEGREE into a career

Accounting, business administration, business economics, data analytics, finance, management and marketing majors at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point are encouraged to meet with Sentry School of Business and Economics academic and career advisers to help develop plans to meet their educational, career and life goals. Academic coaches work alongside students throughout their academic careers, from meeting prospective students on visits to campus to assisting with selecting majors and developing graduation plans.

Academic and career advisers help students develop plans to meet their educational, career and life goals. We assists students with major-specific questions, transferring from other schools to UWSP, planning for study abroad, career development, professional preparation, scholarships, academic success, major maps and graduation plans.

Admission to Sentry School Majors

The Sentry School of Business and Economics has a formal admissions policy. You must be admitted to your Sentry School major to register for some upper-level courses and to graduate with an accounting, business administration and economics major. If you are not far enough along in your studies to qualify for admission to the major, we highly recommend that you request “pre-major” status by declaring a Sentry School major. This will ensure that you receive specialized advising from the Sentry School Advising Center and regular updates on events and deadlines.

Current Sentry School policy states that you must apply for admission to the major once you complete between 10-18 credits toward the major.

You are encouraged to apply once you have completed at least 10 credits in the major. You can check the online catalog for the recommended courses for each major. Note: this includes all courses that count toward your major including courses from other departments, as well as from the Sentry School of Business and Economics.

If you are a transfer student, you should apply before you complete 18 credits in the Sentry School major OR during your first semester at UWSP.

If you are switching majors within the Sentry School of Business and Economics or adding a second major, you may apply even if you already have over 18 credits in the new major, as long as you have met all other admission requirements.

Make sure to utilize the resources below according to the academic year in which you entered the Sentry School program. It is recommended that you check over these guides with your adviser and utilize your degree progress report while creating a graduation plan.

Navigate Your Major

Major Maps help students map their first day to the first job in their chosen field. While a four-year plan outlines classes to get a degree, Major Maps help students learn how to build career-ready skills and experiences outside the classroom. Each Major Map shows how students can get the most of their UW-Stevens Point journey from enrollment to graduation and beyond. It’s a roadmap to discovering your purpose!
