Biography:
I have a Ph.D. from Stanford University and a B.A. (Honours) degree in economics from the University of Winnipeg (Canada). While completing my doctorate at the Stanford Business School with a specialty in political economics, I researched trade politics and resided in Washington, D.C. Earlier in my career, I was a faculty member at the University of Iowa. I was appointed to the UWSP faculty in 2001.
I received the “Excellence in Teaching” award from UWSP’s School of Business & Economics in 2006. In recent years, I have developed very popular writing emphasis courses, including a Business Ethics course and a Marketing Research course. I have also been a leader in developing hybrid (partially online) and fully online courses at UWSP. I regularly teach the School’s “Principles of Management” course, the first junior-level course in the business major.
I have presented numerous research papers at national conferences, on topics ranging from teaching techniques to business and marketing case studies. My most recent publication, co-authored with Pamela Maas, is titled “Hatching a New Identity: Market Research Breathes New Life into an Existing Brand.” The article was published in Spring 2009 in MHS (Marketing Health Services), a top publication for health-care managers from the American Marketing Association. The study gives a rare inside perspective on a multi-stage rebranding project at a regional health-care organization.
Starting in fall 2009, I will be the faculty advisor for the student chapter of SHRM - Society for Human Resource Management. The SBE hopes to see many students take advantage of the networking and learning opportunities available through SHRM.
