Scholarships
The organization awarding the scholarship should provide the student
with information as to how and when the check will be distributed.
Please contact the scholarship provider with any questions.
Scholarships are applied on student bill balances first. If the
amount of the scholarship is greater than the student bill balance, a
refund check for the excess will be issued to the student. The direct
deposit option is not applicable to scholarship refunds.
Student address information must be kept current to ensure mailed
refund checks will be received. Make address changes online at Change
Your Address or contact the Registration & Records Office.
Different scholarship distribution methods require different
responses and procedures:
- Scholarship checks payable to UW-Stevens Point that are sent
directly to the university (preferred):
This is the most
efficient and secure way to present scholarships to the University.
The Bursar's Office will apply the scholarship to the designated
student's bill. No action is required by the student.
Any refunds generated due to overpayment will be mailed to the
student unless otherwise stipulated by the scholarship issuer.
- Special Note to Scholarship Issuers:
- Scholarship checks payable to UW-Stevens Point and the
student jointly, or schlolarship checks payable to the student alone and
sent directly to the university:
A notice is mailed to the student instructing them to visit the Bursar's
Office to sign the scholarship check. The funds will then be applied to
their student bill. Any refunds generated due to overpayment will be
given to the student.- Please bring along your Student ID Card when you come in to
sign the check.
- Scholarship checks sent by the issuer directly to the
student's home address:
The scholarship check will need to be presented to the Bursar's Office
for processing. The student may choose to either mail the scholarship
check to the Bursar's Office or bring the check to the Bursar's Office
in person. The funds will then be applied to the student’s bill. Any
refunds generated due to overpayment will be mailed to the student.
If electing to mail in the scholarship check:
- First, determine how the check is made out. If the check is
payable to UW-Stevens Point and the student (jointly), the student
needs to endorse the check before sending it in for processing. If
the check is payable to the student alone, the student should
endorse the check and then write "Pay to the order of UWSP" next to
their endorsement before sending the check in for processing.
- Make sure the student's name, student ID# and the semester that the
scholarship is intended for on the check and mail it to:
UWSP Bursar's Office
UW-Stevens Point
2100 Main Street
007 SSC
Stevens Point, WI 54481
If electing to bring the scholarship check to the Bursar's Office in
person:
- Please bring along your ID card and any other documentation that
was sent to you along with the scholarship check.
- Bring the scholarship check to the Bursar's Office during the
office hours of 8.30 a.m. - 4.00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
