Research Areas
Taxonomy, anatomy, morphology, and evolution of tropical grasses, especially the woody bamboos (Bambusoideae, especially Aulonemia) and basal grasses (Anomochlooideae and Pharoideae) of the Latin American tropics; also grasses of Madagascar.
Taxonomy, ecology, and conservation of plants of the western Great Lakes region, especially islands; strategies to conserve and enhance rare species populations.
Public outreach through the development of CD-ROMs, conventional published field guides, and online information.

In Michigan: Isle Royale National Park, Huron Islands, Trap Hills (Ottawa National Forest), Keweenaw Peninsula, and Grand Traverse Islands in Lake Michigan. |
