Mitchler Earns
Athlete of the Meet Honor at WIAC Championships
Jenna Mitchler bettered
her automatic qualifying time in the 800-meter dash and won the
3000-meter run to earn women�s Athlete of the Meet honors and lead the
UW-Stevens Point track and field teams over the weekend at the Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference indoor championships in Platteville.
The Pointer women
placed third and the men were fifth in the final team standings. UW-La
Crosse swept both championships.
Mitchler posted an
800-meter time of 2:14.44 to edge teammate Megan Craig, who had a
provisional time of 2:15.01. Mitchler won the 3000-meter run by over 14
seconds in 10:07.31, while Craig also won the one-mile run with a
provisional time of 4:59.12.
Teresa Stanley was the
Pointers� only other women�s champion with a victory in the 5000-meter
run with a time of 18:22.58. Amanda Nechuta was third in the shot put at
43 feet, 10 inches.
Mark LaLonde gave the
Pointers a sweep in the 5000-meter run titles, claiming the men�s race
in a provisional time of 14:44.42. He also had a provisional time while
placing fifth in the mile at 4:15.69.
The Pointers totaled 24
of their 75.5 team points by sweeping the top three spots in the high
jump with Mitch Ellis winning in six feet, 4.75 inches. Kyle Steiner and
Ryan Shepard tied for second at six feet, 2.75 inches.
UW-Stevens Point will
compete this weekend at the NCAA Division III indoor championships in
Bloomington, Ill. |
