Women's Track
Posts Highest-Ever National Finish
Leah Herlache and Megan Craig
both finished among the top three places in the 1500-meter run and led
the distance medley relay team to a third place performance as the
UW-Stevens Point women�s track and field team posted its highest
national finish ever with a third place team finish at Saturday�s NCAA
Division III indoor nationals in Whitewater.
The Pointers bettered
their fourth place finish from 2001 and matched their finish from this
year�s women�s cross country national meet.
UW-Stevens Point also had
an impressive men�s finish by placing sixth overall for its fourth top
10 finish in five years. The UW-La Crosse men and UW-Oshkosh women
dominated the respective meets to take home national titles.
Herlache placed second in
the 1500-meter run at 4:40.31 to edge Craig, who was third at 4:40.83.
The pair were joined by Jenna Mitchler and Marie Burrows to place third
in the distance medley relay at 12:00.75. Mitchler also was sixth in the
800-meter run in 2:17.21 to earn All-American accolades.
On the men�s side, Mark
LaLonde and Mark Wierzba led the Pointers with second place finishes.
Wierzba was second in the 35-pound weight throw with a personal-best
mark of 63 feet. LaLonde was second in the 5000-meter run at 14:34.07.
Andrew Schliepp was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.64 seconds.
