Pointers Settle For Rare Tie
With Rangers
Facing its 10th ranked opponent in the
last 11 matches, UW-Stevens Point battled NCAA Division II UW-Parkside
to a 16-16 tie in a non-conference wrestling match on Wednesday at Berg
Gym in Stevens Point.
The tie was only the fifth draw in UW-Stevens
Point history and the first since a 17-17 tie against Ithaca (N.Y.) on
Jan. 15, 1994.
The Pointers got a major decision win from
Tyler Wozniak at 197 pounds and benefited from a forfeit at 157 pounds.
Freshman Dennis Reckelberg provided a huge lift in the opening match of
the night, posting a 3-2 win at 174 pounds over the Rangers� Albert
Morgan, who was the Most Valuable Wrestler of the Pointer Open in early
November.
Jake Calhoun added a victory at 125 pounds
and the Pointers held on from that point for the draw. UW-Parkside is
ranked 18th in the latest Division II rankings.
