Pointers Suffer First
Conference Loss to Eagles
UW-Stevens Point received
major decision victories from Jered Kern and Kyle Muller, but the
Pointers suffered their first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference wrestling loss of the season with a 26-11 setback on
Wednesday at UW-La Crosse.
Kern posted a 14-2 win at
133 pounds and Mueller won 16-2 at 141 pounds as the 19th-ranked
Pointers took an early 8-3 lead. However, the sixth-ranked Eagles came
back with five straight wins to take the match.
Craig Bollig delivered a 2-0 win
at 197 pounds for the Pointers' other victory. UW-La Crosse has three
wrestlers ranked No. 1 in the country at their respective weight
classes. Josh Ison battled Scott Dorn to a 3-2 loss at 165 pounds, Eric
Bath lost to Josh Chelf 10-2 at 174 pounds and Tyler Wozniak fought
Jason Lulloff to a 3-1 decision at 184 pounds.
UW-Stevens Point is now 8-3
overall and 2-1 in the WIAC.
