Newcomer Gets Lone Win as
Pointers Fall to Top-Ranked Augsburg
Appearing in his first
official varsity wrestling match as a junior, Dustin Robinson provided
UW-Stevens Point's lone victory with a first period pin as the Pointers
dropped a 38-6 decision to top-ranked Augsburg on Friday in Stevens
Point.
Robinson, who has
previously only wrestled varsity matches unattached in open meets,
joined the team this week and recorded a pin at 197 pounds at the 2:08
mark of the first period. It was the only victory for the Pointers
against an imposing Auggies' lineup that featured eight nationally
ranked competitors, including four top-ranked wrestlers.
Mitch Szwet had a strong
performance for the Pointers at heavyweight, working to a 4-2 decision
in a loss to seventh-ranked Andrew Neumann. Chris Brown also battled
Jeremy Anderson, the nation's top-ranked 157-pounder, to a 5-1 decision.
Augsburg 165-pounder
Marcus LeVesseur capped the night with a technical fall over Chris Karl
to improve to 147-0 for his career. The senior is attempting to join
Iowa State's Cael Sanderson as the only wrestlers ever to complete an
undefeated collegiate career.
