Bath Leads Wrestlers at Pointer Open
Complete Results
Eric Bath recovered from a first round loss to win five straight matches
and post the highest finish by a UW-Stevens Point wrestler with a third
place effort at 174 pounds at Saturday's Pointer Open in Stevens Point.
Mitch Szwet was the Pointers' other top four
finisher with a fourth place finish at 197 pounds in the season-opening
event. No team scores were kept.
Bath posted three straight pins after losing his
opener and then won by injury default before a 2-1 victory over Jerrod
Burgin of Waldorf in the third place match.
Szwet lost in the semfiinals after winning his
first two matches and then won one consolation match before losing to Ben
Janike of Minnesota State-Mankato 6-2 in the third place contest.
Also, Joel Burdick was fifth at 141 pounds,
batting back from a second-round loss with three wrestleback wins,
including a 3-1 win over Zach Stevens of Minnesota State-Mankato in the
final match. Jake Calhoun was sixth in the 125-pound class, posting two
opening wins before three straight defeats. Matt Lapinski had two pins in
the 133-pound silver division and then won by injury default in the fifth
place match.
