Szwet Has Big Win in Pointers' Loss to
Parkside
UW-Stevens Point�s Mitch Szwet knocked off a
nationally-ranked wrestler at 197 pounds, but it wasn�t enough to lead the
Pointers to victory in a 23-16 wrestling loss to UW-Parkside on Wednesday
in Kenosha.
Szwet was awarded a third period stalling point
to earn a 3-2 win over UW-Parkside�s Jon Goral, who is ranked sixth in the
NCAA Division II at the weight class. The Rangers are ranked 12th overall
in Division II, while UW-Stevens Point is ranked 22nd in Division III.
Mike Hayes posted a major decision at
heavyweight with an 11-2 victory, while Joel Burdick earned an 8-4 win at
141 pounds. Al Stacilaukas, wrestling in his first match of the season for
the Pointers, battled A.J. Morgan, the fifth-ranked 174-pounder in
Division II, to an 8-6 loss. Jered Kern won by forfeit at 125 pounds for
the Pointers� other victory.
UW-Stevens Point hosts UW-Whitewater on Saturday
at 7 p.m. in Berg Gym.
