Pointers Finish 1-2 at National Duals
After an opening-round victory, the UW-Stevens
Point wrestling team dropped its next two matches at the Cliff Keen
National Duals on Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The 10th-ranked Pointers opened the day with a
23-18 win over 29th-ranked Coe (Iowa), but then lost to fifth-ranked
Luther (Iowa) 28-12 in the quarterfinals. UW-Stevens Point was eliminated
later in the day with a 22-18 loss to Augustana (Ill.).
Eric Bath won all three of his matches at 174
pounds to lead the Pointers, posting pins against Coe and Augustana.
Heavyweight Mike Hayes also won all three matches with a pin against Coe,
a technical fall against Luther and a forfeit win over Augustana.
Craig Bollig at 184 pounds and Joel Burdick at
141 pounds each had two victories for the Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point will host top-ranked Wartburg
and eighth-ranked Loras on Sat. Jan. 21 at 4 p.m. in the Quandt Fieldhouse.
