Hayes' Pin Leads Pointers in Loss at
Augsburg
Mike Hayes recorded a pin at heavyweight as the
UW-Stevens Point wrestling team took three individual matches from
second-ranked Augsburg in a 25-12 dual loss to the Auggies on Friday in
Minneapolis.
Hayes recorded a pin in 5:39 to register half
of the 17th-ranked Pointers� team scoring. With the victory, the
fourth-ranked Hayes improved to 19-2 for the season.
Jake Calhoun opened the match with a 10-4 win
at 125 pounds, but the Auggies came back to post seven straight
victories before Mitch Szwet earned a 5-0 decision at 197 pounds for the
Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point�s other two nationally ranked
wrestlers both lost tough matches as Joel Burdick suffered an overtime
setback at 141 pounds and Al Stacilauskas lost 4-3 to fifth-ranked
Robbie Gotreau at 174 pounds. Both wrestlers were ranked seventh at
their weight class.
The Pointers compete in their final regular
season match on Saturday at UW-Eau Claire.
