Wrestling Team Adds 10 Recruits for 2004-05 Season

A state champion and three state runner-up wrestlers along with a pair of transfers highlight the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point wrestling teams 2003-04 recruiting class.

Overall, the Pointers have eight incoming freshmen and two transfers to add to last years squad that finished second in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and ninth at the NCAA Division III championships.

Eric Bath, a Pulaski native, will attend UW-Stevens Point after claiming the WIAA Division 1 state champion at 160 pounds and posting a 47-1 record as a senior. He will be joined by three runner-up wrestlers from last years state meet. Antonio Narvaez of Kenosha Bradford was Division 1 runner-up at 125 pounds with a 34-5 record, Brandon Wozniak of Stanley-Boyd was Division 2 runner-up at 171 pounds with a 37-3 record and Mitch Szwet of Coleman was a two-time Division 3 runner-up, compiling a 41-2 record last year at 215 pounds.

Chase DeCleene from Ashwaubenon had a 40-4 record last season and placed fifth at state at 135 pounds after a fifth place finish and 45-5 record at 119 pounds as a junior. Jake Haley of Wilmot was a state qualifier the past three years and was 41-5 at 125 pounds last season, while Chris Brown of Mishicot was a two-time state qualifier and posted a 32-7 record at 152 pounds as a senior. Ken Duren from Warren City, Mo. also was a state qualifier at 152 pounds.

A pair of quality transfers will also help bolster the Pointers lineup. Al Stacilauskas comes from Division I Central Michigan after winning two Upper Michigan state titles at Escanaba High School. Jason Allen attended Missouri Valley, one of the nations top NAIA programs, and posted fourth and fifth place state high school finishes in Texas.
