Wrestlers Place Second at UW-Eau Claire

Cody Koenig won his
second straight UW-Eau Claire Invitational Wrestling Invitational title on
Saturday to lead UW-Stevens Point to a runner-up finish in the team
standings.
Koenig, ranked third in the NCAA Division III at
174 pounds, beat fourth-ranked Mark Sturm of Wartburg 4-1 in the finals.
Koenig beat Sturm in all three meetings last year, including a win in the
national quarterfinals.
Brady Holtz also won for the Pointers, posting a
pair of victories to take the title at 133 pounds. UW-Stevens Point,
ranked fourth in the country, totaled 64 team points to finish second
behind top-ranked Wartburg, which had 108 points.
Yan White, ranked third in the nation at 197
pounds, suffered just his second loss of the season, losing to Akeem
Carter of Wartburg 6-2 in the finals. Carter, ranked second in the
country, also handed White his other loss this year with a 5-3 win on Jan.

Mike Hayes was second at heavyweight, losing to
UW-Oshkosh�s Nate Muckerheide 7-5 in the finals. Joel Burdick was third at
141 pounds, posting a 6-2 win over Adam Kuchina of UW-La Crosse in the
third place match. Also, Josh Ison was fourth at 165 pounds and Ryan
Hansen was fourth at 149 pounds. |
