UW-Stevens Point 30, UW-Whitewater 3

     UW-Stevens Point claimed the first nine matches and rolled to a 30-3 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wrestling victory over UW-Whitewater Thursday night at Berg Gym.

     The Pointers, ranked 25th in the NCAA Division III, had two major decision wins from Joe Bavlnka and Yan White to open the match and Mark Burger then used a takedown with 40 seconds remaining to defeat Brian Mingus 6-4 at 285 pounds.

     UW-Stevens Point won two straight overtime matches to extend the lead as David Davila had an escape midway through the extra minute to win 7-6 at 125 pounds and Jared Esala held Mike Jankowski for the full 30 seconds in a tiebreaker at 133 pounds.

     Joel Burdick won at 141 pounds and Justin Geitner had a major decision win at 149 pounds before Nate Preslaski at 157 pounds and Cody Koenig at 165 pounds finished the Pointers� run.

     Jeff Zastrow had UW-Whitewater�s lone win by defeating Jamie Schultz 13-6 at 174 pounds. The Pointers are now 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the WIAC.
