Defeat UW-Oshkosh in WIAC Dual
The University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point wrestling team dropped its opening match, but won
the final eight decisions of the night to defeat UW-Oshkosh 33-12
Wednesday in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual match at
the Berg Gymnasium in Stevens Point. After
the Titans' Joel Dziedzic won by pin at 149 pounds to open the night, the
Pointers' received a major decision from Nathan Preslaski at 157 pounds
and a pin from Nathan Ugoretz at 165 pounds to take a 10-6 lead. Wes
Kapping recorded a technical fall at 174 pounds and Ben Kureck won at 184
pounds to increase the lead to 18-6. Mitch
Gehring added a pin at heavyweight and, following a forfeit at 125 pounds,
Brady Holtz and Chet Zdanczewicz both had wins at 133 and 141,
respectively to give the Pointers a 30-12 lead. Yan White finished the
night with a 4-1 victory at 197 pounds in the Quandt Fieldhouse at
halftime of the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball game. The
Pointers, who are ranked 14th in the NCAA Division III, are now
5-3 overall and travel to fourth-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) Saturday at 7 p.m. UW-Stevens
