9, 2001 Pointers Drop Dual to Top-Ranked Augsburg
Brady Holtz and Yan White each
recorded victories, but it wasn't enough for the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point wrestling team in a 33-6 loss to Augsburg Friday
at Berg Gymnasium. The
Pointers fell to 7-6 overall with the loss to the Auggies, who are ranked
No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division III rankings and improved to 15-1
overall. UW-Stevens Point is ranked 20th in the nation. Holtz
picked up a 9-2 decision at 133 pounds with a victory over Troy Peterson,
while White improved to 21-6 for the season with a 4-2 overtime victory
over Augsburg's Kevin Rasmussen, who fell to 25-8 with the loss. Wes
Kapping, who is ranked fourth in the country at 174 pounds was tied 2-2
after two periods with Augsburg's Joe Moon, but lost 7-4. Mitch Gehring
battled Ben Bauer, the nation's top-ranked heavyweight to a 4-0 loss.
The Pointers will host UW-River Falls Saturday at noon and UW-Eau
Claire Saturday at 4 p.m. at Berg Gym. Augsburg
