Pointers Top Falcons to Get Back on Winning Track

Box Score

UW-Stevens Point overcame its first back-to-back losses in over two years and also avenged a loss and tie to UW-River Falls earlier this season by posting a 4-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association win on Sunday in River Falls.

Nicole Greeneway scored two goals for the Pointers, who scored two goals in the first period and built a 4-0 lead in improving to 10-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the NCHA. The Pointers had lost their first two games this week for their first two-game losing streak since Jan. 8-9, 2005. UW-River Falls is now 9-5-3 overall and 5-2-1 in the league.

UW-Stevens Point held a 32-17 advantage in shots as Amy Statz made 16 saves in net and became the third goalie in NCAA Division III history to win 60 career games. Eight of her saves came in the first period.

Katy Lankey scored the Pointers first goal shorthanded with 2:01 left in the first period with assists from Jessie Suter and Sarah Phillips. Greeneway then scored her first goal on a power play with four seconds left in the period off a pass from Nicole Grossmann.

Grossmann assisted the third goal at the 10:42 mark of the second period, passing to Phillips for a power play goal. Greeneway finished the Pointers scoring with a four-on-four goal assisted by Tracy Butler at the 13:03 mark of the third period. Kristen Juven scored shorthanded for the Falcons just 27 seconds later.
