Falcons to Get Back on Winning Track

UW-Stevens Point overcame its first back-to-back
losses in over two years and also avenged a loss and tie to UW-River Falls
earlier this season by posting a 4-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association
win on Sunday in River Falls.
Nicole Greeneway scored two goals for the
Pointers, who scored two goals in the first period and built a 4-0 lead in
improving to 10-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the NCHA. The Pointers had lost
their first two games this week for their first two-game losing streak since
Jan. 8-9, 2005. UW-River Falls is now 9-5-3 overall and 5-2-1 in the league.
UW-Stevens Point held a 32-17 advantage in shots
as Amy Statz made 16 saves in net and became the third goalie in NCAA
Division III history to win 60 career games. Eight of her saves came in the
first period.
Katy Lankey scored the Pointers� first goal
shorthanded with 2:01 left in the first period with assists from Jessie
Suter and Sarah Phillips. Greeneway then scored her first goal on a power
play with four seconds left in the period off a pass from Nicole Grossmann.
Grossmann assisted the third goal at the 10:42
mark of the second period, passing to Phillips for a power play goal.
Greeneway finished the Pointers� scoring with a four-on-four goal assisted
by Tracy Butler at the 13:03 mark of the third period. Kristen Juven scored
shorthanded for the Falcons just 27 seconds later. |
