Pointers Fall
Victim to Gusties' Revenge in 4-2 Loss

After handing Gustavus Adolphus its only loss
earlier this season, UW-Stevens Point fell victim to the Gusties� revenge on
Tuesday as the nation�s second-ranked team earned a 4-2 home win in St.
Peter, Minn.
The Pointers, ranked sixth in the NCAA Division
III, beat the Gusties 5-4 on Nov. 11 and 2-0 in last year�s national third
place game. However, Gustavus Adolphus built a 4-0 lead after two periods
and then held off the Pointers to improve to 11-1 overall.
UW-Stevens Point fell to 9-3-1 overall and began
its rally with an unassisted goal from Katy Lankey at the 12:20 mark of the
final period. Michelle Sosnowski added a goal assisted by Jessie Suter at
the 17:21 mark.
Gustavus Adolphus got a first period goal from
Jenna Johnson. The Gusties added three more goals in the second period from
Melissa Mackley, Mari Gunderson and Molly Doyle. Andrea Peterson assisted
three of the Gusties� goals and Mackley added two assists.
Amy Statz started in goal for the Pointers and
made 25 saves in the first 34 minutes. Freshman d�Andra Phillips played the
final 26 minutes and stopped all 10 shots faced. Gustavus Adolphus held a
39-20 advantage in shots, including a 33-7 margin in the first two periods. |
