Grossmann Leads
UW-Stevens Point on All-NCHA Women�s Hockey Team
Freshman forward Nicole Grossmann was named to the
first team of the all-Northern Collegiate Hockey Association women�s hockey
squad to lead conference champion UW-Stevens Point�s postseason honors.
Sophomore defenseman Lauren Kellin was a
second-team pick, while junior goaltender Amy Statz and sophomore forward
Katy Lankey were honorable mention performers.
The Pointers won their second straight NCHA
regular season title with an 11-1-3 league record and 17-4-4 overall mark.
UW-Stevens Point will host the league playoffs on Friday and Saturday as the
Pointers open against Lake Forest on Friday at 4 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
Grossmann, a Lindstrom, Minn. native, was the top freshman scorer in
the NCHA with 10 goals and five assists for 15 points in league play.
Overall, Grossmann led the Pointers with 16 goals and seven assists for 23
points. She had most of her success in the second half of the season,
scoring points in 11 of the team�s games during its current 12-game unbeaten
streak. She has scored the team�s first goal in six of its last eight games
and has a single-season school record three shorthanded goals.
Kellin, a Grand Rapids, Minn. native, was an
honorable mention selection last season and leads the nation�s top defensive
unit, which has allowed just 28 goals in 25 games this year for an average
of 1.12 goals per game. Kellin is also the team�s top-scoring defenseman
with four goals and nine assists for 13 points.
Statz, a Wisconsin Rapids native, is tied for the
national lead with a 1.22 goals against average and also ranks fourth in the
country with a .933 save percentage. Her numbers were even more impressive
in league play with a 1.06 goals against average and .943 save percentage.
Lankey, a Baraboo native, ranked third on the team
in scoring with nine goals and seven assists for 16 points. She led the
Pointers in a key weekend against league runner-up UW-Superior with three
goals and one assist as UW-Stevens Point earned a win and a tie.
UW-Superior�s Erin Kegley was the league�s Player
of the Year for the second straight season and Yellowjackets� coach Dan
Laughlin was named the Coach of the Year. |
