Past Wisconsin Lutheran

UW-Stevens Point used an up-tempo offense and
dominating inside game to roll past Wisconsin Lutheran 98-62 in a
non-conference women�s basketball game Tuesday at Berg Gym.
The Pointers scored 56 points in the second half
and got career-high performances from its two 6-2 post players as junior
Nathalie Lechault had 18 points, eight rebounds and five blocks in just 13
minutes and sophomore Jesirae Heuer scored 15 points in 12 minutes in
making her first career start.
UW-Stevens Point led 16-13 early in the game and
scored the game�s next 12 points over a span of 5:15. Wisconsin Lutheran
used a six-point spurt near the end of the first half to close to within
38-29, but came no closer. The Warriors had four players with at least two
fouls in the first half, including all three of their inside players.
The Pointers maintained an 11 to 14-point lead
throughout the first five minutes of the second half before breaking the
game open. Laura Neuenfeldt, who finished with 12 points and
seven-for-seven from the free throw line, scored a three-point play to put
the Pointers ahead 59-44 and start a seven-point run. Cassandra Schultz
followed with a driving layup for two of her 16 points.
UW-Stevens Point shot 54.1 percent in the second
half and closed the game by scoring the final 10 points over the final
1:44 of the contest. It marked the Pointers� sixth straight victory over
Wisconsin Lutheran and their most points since a 100-65 win at Carroll on
Dec. 13, 2003. |
