Maus Named
First-Team All-WIAC, Kunde and Marten Honored
UW-Stevens Points best volleyball season in
recent history has been rewarded with the teams first all-conference
selection since 1995 as junior middle hitter Shelly Maus landed a spot
on the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conferences 12-member first
team.
Maus, an honorable mention all-conference performer the past two
seasons, was one of three UW-Stevens Point players to receive postseason
honors. Sophomore Callie Kunde was named honorable mention and senior
Lori Marten was chosen to the leagues all-defensive team. The Pointers
finished 24-12 for their most wins since 1995 and best winning
percentage since 1985.
Maus, who attended Green Bay Southwest High
School, led the conference and ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III
with 207 blocks for an average of 1.64 per game. She was also third in
the league with a .354 hitting percentage and ranked eighth in the
conference with 440 kills. Maus became just the fourth player in school
history to reach 1,000 career kills and currently ranks second on the
schools all-time list with 1,211 over her three seasons.
Kunde, who attended Apple Valley (Minn.) High School, was one of the
conferences most versatile players, totaling a league-high 12
triple-doubles. As a setter and rightside hitter, Kunde ranked ninth in
the conference in assists at 6.41 per game and 19th in kills with 335
for an average of 2.72 per game.
Marten, a Pittsville native, finished her career ranked third in
WIAC history with 2,163 career digs. Her 675 digs this
season fell one short of her own single-season school record set in 2004
when she was also named to the leagues all-defensive team. Marten
played in all 128 of the teams games this season and 494 of a possible
499 over the past four seasons.
UW-Plattevilles Dana Alf was named the
conferences Player of the Year and UW-Eau Claires Lisa Herb was the
Coach of the Year. |
