Titans Spurt Past Pointers for WIAC

UW-Stevens Point got off to strong starts in
the opening two games, but UW-Oshkosh used scoring runs midway through
each game to pull ahead and gain a sweep of the Pointers in a Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Wednesday in
Oshkosh.
The ninth-ranked Titans improved to 25-4 and
dropped the Pointers to 20-10 overall with a 30-21, 30-18, 30-22
victory. UW-Oshkosh is now 4-1 in the league, while UW-Stevens Point
fell to 3-4 in the conference.
The Pointers led much of the first game after
opening up an early 7-3 advantage. The Titans battled back to tie the
game and the score was knotted at 19-19 before UW-Oshkosh reeled off
eight straight points to take control.
UW-Stevens Point also had an early 5-2 lead in
the second game, but again the Titans worked back into the game, using a
7-1 spurt to gain a 15-11 lead. The Titans led 20-16 later in the game
before ending the game with an 11-2 run, including the final five
points. UW-Oshkosh led the third game from start to finish, opening up
an early 10-4 lead with the Pointers coming no closer than five points
the rest of the game.
The Pointers were led by Callie Kunde with 10
kills and 14 assists. Shelly Maus had seven kills and five blocks, wihle
Lori Marten tallied 14 digs. Katie Beining led the Titans with 11 kills.
Leah Stumpf added 35 assists. |
