Kunde Named
Pointers First Volleyball Player of the Week Since 2000
It was a milestone weekend for the UW-Stevens
Point volleyball team and the Pointers reached another as sophomore
Callie Kunde was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
player of the week.
Kunde, a setter and right-side hitter from Apple Valley, Minn., had a
triple-double in the Pointers five-game win over UW-Stout on Friday and
nearly had another in Saturdays triumph over UW-River Falls. She had 18
kills, 36 assists and 15 digs in the win over UW-Stout and followed with
nine kills, 26 assists and 14 digs against UW-River Falls.
Kunde is the first UW-Stevens Point player to
earn the conferences weekly honor since Chrissy Klipstine on Oct. 3,
2000. Prior to Kundes selection, the Pointers went 54 consecutive weeks
without winning the league award.
UW-Stevens Point is 12-6 overall and 2-0 in
the WIAC for the first time since 1998. The Pointers win over UW-River
Falls was their first in the series since 1994 and their first over the
Falcons in a league match since 1988.
The Pointers will host a pair of
non-conference matches on Wednesday, taking on Beloit at 4 p.m. and
Lawrence at 8 p.m. at Berg Gym. |
