WIAC Volleyball Quarterfinals - Oct. 31, 2000

Pointers Snap UW-Whitewater's Streak, But Fall in Four Games

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point may not have pulled off a match victory Tuesday night in its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament opener, but the Pointers still managed to pull off an upset, earning a game off UW-Whitewater to snap the Warhawks' 47-game win streak.

UW-Whitewater, which is ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division III, won the match

15-1, 15-10, 8-15, 15-0 to improve to 34-1 overall and earn the right to host this weekend's conference semifinals and finals. The Warhawks will face fifth-seeded UW-Platteville, while third-seeded UW-Oshkosh meets second-seeded UW-River Falls.

Raina Gagnow led the Pointers with 15 digs, 13 kills and no hitting errors. Chrissy Klipstine and Carry Boehning also had error-free nights as Klipstine had 10 kills and Boehning finished with eight kills. Lucy Fisher totaled 32 assists and nine digs for UW-Stevens Point.

The Pointers ended their season at 12-22 overall and became just the fifth team this season in 35 matches to win a game from the Warhawks.
