Men Fourth,
Women Fifth After First Day at WIAC Indoor Meet
UW-Stevens Point sits in fourth place in the
men�s competition and fifth place in the women�s standings following the
first day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference indoor
track and field championships on Friday in Whitewater.
The Pointer men�s team has 22 points and is
just seven points out of second place with UW-La Crosse leading the way
at 62 points. The Eagles also lead the women�s competition with 69
points as UW-Stevens Point has 18 points. The meet concludes on
Saturday.
The men�s team had fourth place finishes and
NCAA provisional qualifying marks from Mark Cufaude in the pole vault at
15 feet, 3.75 inches and Peter Prusinski in the shot put at 51 feet,
seven inches. Nick VerDuin added the top preliminary time in the
200-meter dash at 22.23 seconds and Adam Baumann had the second-fastest
qualifying time in the 55-meter hurdles at 7.74 seconds.
The women were led by the distance medley
relay team with a second place performance in 12:33.54. Beth Richter was
fourth in the long jump with a provisional mark of 18 feet, 5.75 inches
and Angela Sheridan was fourth in the shot put at 41 feet, 2.25 inches.
Laura Simonis was third in the 200-meter dash prelims at 25.92 seconds. |
