Men Place
17th, Women 39th at Indoor Nationals
UW-Stevens Point�s 1600-meter relay team
placed third overall to lead the men�s track and field team to a 17th
place finish at Saturday�s NCAA Division III indoor championships in
Terre Haute, Ind.
The team of Adam Baumann, Ryan Schroeder, Kyle
Steiner and Nick VerDuin posted a time of 3:16.87. The Pointers totaled
12 points with Lincoln (Pa.) winning the team title with 59 points.
UW-Stevens Point�s women�s team had three
points to place 39th. Williams (Mass.) won the national title with 42
points. The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference had four of
the top six teams with UW-Eau Claire third, UW-La Crosse fourth,
UW-Platteville fifth and UW-Oshkosh sixth.
The Pointer men�s team had three individual
All-Americans with top eight finishes. Mitch Ellis was fifth in the high
jump at six feet, 8.75 inches. Baumann added an eighth place effort in
the 55-meter hurdles at 7.71 seconds and VerDuin was eighth in the
400-meter dash at 50.34 seconds.
The women�s team had one All-American
performance as Beth Richter provided all of the team�s points with a
sixth place performance in the long jump at 18 feet, 1.75 inches. |
