Stanley Leads Pointers at
WIAC Indoor Meet
Teresa Stanley posted a
runner-up finish in the 5000-meter run to lead the UW-Stevens Point
women's track and field team to a fifth place standing in the opening
day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor
Championships Friday in Stevens Point.
The Pointer's women's team
has 19.5 points with UW-La Crosse leading the meet with 56.5 points. The
Pointers' men's team is in sixth place, tied with UW-Stout at six
points. The Eagles also lead the men's race with 67 points.
Stanley posted an NCAA
provisional time of 17:29.56. Katie Simo, Marie Burrows and Andrea
Irvine all qualified for the 400-meter final on Saturday. Burrows also
qualified for the 200-meter final, finishing sixth in the prelims at
26.30 seconds. Defending indoor national champion Jenna Mitchler
qualified for the 800-meter final posting an NCAA automatic time of
2:12.74.
UW-Stevens Point's Kent
Hutchinson placed sixth in the men's long jump with a leap of 22 feet,
0.75 inches. The distance medley relay team also placed sixth with a
time of 10:26.40 to complete the men's scoring.
Kyle Steiner is in first
place of the men's heptathlon after four events with 2814 points.
Steiner and Adam Bauman both qualified for the 55-meter hurdles final on
Saturday. Bauman also qualified for the 55-meter dash with a prelim time
of 6.60 seconds.
