Mitchler Claims Third Place
Finish at NCAA Indoors
Senior Jenna Mitchler
finished third in the one mile run Saturday to lead the UW-Stevens Point
men's and women's track and field teams at the NCAA Division III
Championships in Northfield, Minn.
Mitchler, the defending
national champion in the 800-meter run, posted a 4:56.37 in the mile
finals after posting the best qualifying time on Friday. It marked
Mitchler's third individual indoor all-American honor and fifth overall.
UW-Stevens Point women's 1600-meter relay of Andrea Irvine, Marie
Burrows, Laura Simonis and Katie Simo finished seventh with a time of
3:56.77 to earn all-American accolades. It was the best finish in school
history for a women's 1600 meter relay team.
Adam Baumann, Ryan Schroeder, Kyle Steiner and Nick Ver Duin also
claimed all-American honors in the 1600-meter relay for the men. The men
finished in fourth place with a time of 3:18.93, marking the best finish
for UW-Stevens Point in the 1600-meter relay since 1997.
The men's team finished 20th overall with nine team points, while the
women were 23rd with eight total points.
The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
posted another strong performance as UW-La Crosse won the men's team
national championship for the sixth consecutive year. UW-Oshkosh won
their third straight national championship for the women. |
