Automatic Qualifies in High Jump as Men Win
Mitch Ellis had an NCAA automatic qualifying
performance in the high jump as the UW-Stevens Point men�s track and
field team coasted to the team title at the Carthage Invitational on
Saturday in Kenosha.
Ellis had a leap of six feet, 10.25 inches as
the Pointers amassed 217.5 points to win by nearly 100 points. The
Pointer women�s team was fourth of 10 schools with Carthage taking a
narrow victory.
Jenna Mitchler had the Pointers� only NCAA
provisional qualifying mark by winning the women�s mile in 5:00.54.
Kyle Steiner claimed two events for the men�s
team, winning the 55-meter hurdles in 8.03 seconds and the 600-meter
dash in 1:22.62. Peter Prusinski won the shot put in 49 feet, 11.75
inches and the men�s 1600-meter relay won in 3:25.88 with Cagney Scott
posting a time of 50.0 seconds on his 400-meter leg.
Jason Boudreau was second in the pole vault at
14 feet, six inches and Kent Hutchinson was second in the long jump at
22 feet, 4.5 inches. Pat Leonard added a runner-up finish in the
400-meter dash at 52.19 seconds and Mike Ormond was second in the
3000-meter run at 8:58.68.
The women�s 1600-meter relay team was second
in 4:09.88. Laura Simonis was second in the 400-meter dash at 1:01.03
and Beth Richter was runner-up in the long jump at 16 feet, 6.75 inches.
