Johnson and Slabosheski Named WIAC Athletes of the Week

     UW-Stevens Point landed a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference track and field Athletes of the Week as men�s track athlete Curt Johnson and women�s field athlete Julia Slabosheski were both honored after impressive weekend performances.

     Johnson, a senior from DeForest, qualified for nationals in the 10,000 meter run after running the race in 30:11.48.  The time posted by Johnson is the second fastest in Division III this year.

     At the Drake Relays, an event which includes several Division I and II competitors, Johnson placed third behind two runners from Colorado State in the 10,000 meter run.

     Slabosheski, a senior from Princeton, qualified for the NCAA Division III outdoor nationals in the discus with a throw of 160 feet, two inches at the La Crosse Invite. The throw was the best this season in Division III.

    Slabosheski placed first at the La Crosse Invite and will be making her second consecutive trip to nationals in the discus. The national meet will take place May 27-29 in Decatur, Ill.
