Tennis Falls Short in Dual Meet at Carroll

     With the final match of Friday�s women�s tennis dual meet coming down to a third-set tiebreaker, Carroll emerged victorious to defeat UW-Stevens Point 5-4 in a non-conference match in Waukesha.

     The Pioneers� Samantha Bachmann took the first set from UW-Stevens Point�s Mashell VerBockel at No. 3 singles 6-2 before VerBockel rallied with a 6-3 win in the second set. Bachmann then won a 10-point tiebreaker 10-5.

     The other five singles matches were all decided in straight sets with UW-Stevens Point getting wins from Rachel Benn at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1 and from Emily Oxton at No. 5 singles 6-3, 7-5. Benn and Emily Riordan teamed for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles and Oxton joined Emily Bouche for an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.

     The Pointers are now 1-1 for the season and compete Saturday at the UW-Whitewater Invitational.
