UW-Stevens Point�s women�s 200-yard freestyle
relay team set a meet record and Ben Gensler won two men�s individual
titles to lead the Pointers� swimming and diving teams at the Wheaton
Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The women�s team placed third among eight
schools in a strong field. UW-Stevens Point had 563 points with
UW-Milwaukee taking the team title with 814 points. The Pointer men�s
team was sixth of nine teams with 482 points as UW-Milwaukee also won
the men�s competition with 713 points.
Gensler won the 100-yard and 200-yard
breaststroke events in NCAA Division III �B� cut times. He won the
100-yard event in 58.54 seconds and the 200-yard race in 2:05.28. Chase
Gross added a title in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.23 seconds. Gross was
also second in the 100-yard butterfly in 50.42 seconds and third in the
100-yard freestyle with 49.72 seconds. He had �B� cut times in all three
events, including a mark of 46.22 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle
prelims.
Gensler and Gross also were joined by Chris
Hruska and Rob Donisch on the 400-yard medley relay that finished
runner-up with a time of 3:29.62.
The women�s 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Kelsey Crunstedt, Trish Nye, Beth Bard and Caitlin Hake had a �B� cut
time while setting a meet and pool record of 1:36.66 in a time trial
after finishing second in the actual event. The same group also had a
�B� cut while winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:49.40.
Abby Strobel was second in the 200-yard
backstroke in 2:10.19 and third in the 400-yard individual medley in
4:42.70. Nye added a third place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in
1:08.16 and Kristin Bennett was third in the 200-yard breaststroke in
2:27.44.
