Pointers Roll Past Blugolds for Dual Meet Victory

     Caitlin Hake and Abby Strobel each won two events to lead the UW-Stevens Point women�s swimming and diving team to a 188-55 win over UW-Eau Claire on Friday in Stevens Point.

     The Pointer men�s team also had a dominating performance with a 183-60 win over the Blugolds as Alex Anderson won a pair of events. The Pointers won every men's and women's event except for the men�s diving competition.

     Hake captured the 50-yard freestyle in 24.86 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 54.46 seconds. She also teamed with Jerica Crook, Lindsey Googins and Kelsey Crunstedt to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:42.82. Strobel claimed the 200-yard individual medley in 2:16.66 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:12.19.

     Crook won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.62 and Googins took the 500-yard freestyle in 5:24.95. Crunstedt also swam on the winning 400-yard medley relay in 4:06.56 along with Liz Herder, Jennie Roskopf and Meghan Walsh. Walsh also claimed the 200-yard butterfly in 2:16.55.

     For the men, Anderson won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.63 seconds and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:10.86. Tyler Eloranta won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.62 and joined Chris Engler, Brian Schmidt and Bryan Matthias in winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:23.02.

     Willie Clapp and John Gross both swam on the winning 400-yard medley relay and won individual events as Clapp won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:08.11 and Gross claimed the 100-yard freestyle in 48.37 seconds. The pair teamed with Nick Rosier and Garth Newport for the relay win in 3:40.24.

     The Pointers compete Saturday at St. Cloud State in a triangular with Northern Michigan.
