For just the second time in school history,
UW-Stevens Point has recorded three straight softball shutouts after
blanking Ripon twice on Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader in
Ripon.
The Pointers took the opening game 5-0 and
then rolled to an 8-0 win in the second game. They won their previous
game 8-0 over Carleton, matching the shutout streak of three straight
from late in the 2001 season. UW-Stevens Point is now 13-3 overall,
while Ripon dropped to 7-4 after winning its first seven games.
Stephanie Anderson pitched a three-hit shutout
in the opener with seven strikeouts. Two of Ripons hits came to open
the fifth inning, but Anderson set down the next three batters in order
to preserve the shutout.

two-out, two-run double in the third inning and then scored on a double
by Jackie Berger for a 3-0 lead. The Pointers added two unearned runs in
the fifth as Mandy Jellish singled and later scored on an error and
Brooks had a run-scoring groundout.
Hope Krause fired her third straight shutout
in the second game with a one-hitter in a game shortened to six innings
by the eight-run rule. Krause now has 18 consecutive scoreless innings
pitched.
The Pointers jumped on the Red Hawks early
with two runs in the first inning and three in the second. Laura Van
Abel had a run-scoring triple and scored on a single by Anderson in the
second inning. Van Abel and Anderson both finished three-for-four and
