Solid Pitching Leads Pointers to Sweep in Florida

Stephanie Anderson and Hope Krause each pitched complete games as the UW-Stevens Point softball team posted a pair of victories on Monday in Kissimmee, Fla.

Anderson threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts in a 3-2 win over Wellesley (Mass.) and Krause scattered 10 hits in a 4-2 victory over Washington & Jefferson (Pa.). The Pointers are now 4-2 on their spring trip and 6-2 overall for the season.

Chelsea McIlquham drove home two runs in the opening game. McIlquham and Mandy Jellish each had run-scoring singles in a two-run third inning and she added a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.

UW-Stevens Point scored all four of its runs in the opening inning of the second game. Jellish opened the game with a walk and Laura Van Abel followed with a two-run homer. Anderson and Allison Dorn each had run-scoring singles later in the inning.
