Ashbeck's 11th
Inning Hit Helps Pointers Split
Danielle Ashbeck drove in
the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning to beat Western
Connecticut State as UW-Stevens Point salvaged a split of its first two
games at the Rebel Games softball invitational on Saturday in Kissimmee,
Fla.
The Pointers lost their
first game to Penn State-Behrend 7-4 and then pulled out the 3-2 win over
Western Connecticut State as Stephanie Anderson tied a school record by
pitching all 11 innings.
In the 11th inning, Jackie
Berger was placed on second base due to the international tiebreaker.
Anderson bunted her to third, and after two intentional walks, Ashbeck
lined a bases loaded single to rightcenter field for the win.
Anderson struck out five and
scattered six hits in her complete game win. Korryn Brooks led the
Pointers at two-for-four.
In the opener, the Pointers
scored two first inning runs and two more in the top of the third to tie
the game 4-4, but Penn State-Behrend scored three in the bottom of the
inning for the win.
Allison Dorn started on the
mound for the Pointers and Anderson pitched the last four innings, taking
the loss. Brooks and Berger were each two-for-three and Mandy Jellish was
two-for-four.
UW-Stevens Point is now 3-1
overall and plays 10 more games this week in Florida. |
