Softball Lands Three Players on All-WIAC Squad

     After completing its winningest season since 1999, the UW-Stevens Point softball team was rewarded with three selections on the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team.

     Junior outfielder Rebekah Bauer was selected to the team for the second straight year, while junior pitcher/first baseman Stephanie Anderson and freshman pitcher Kelly Jablonski both earned their first all-conference awards. Junior second baseman Jenny Feidt and freshman third baseman Laura Zierler both earned honorable mention accolades.

     The Pointers finished 26-15 overall and tied for third place in the WIAC standings. It marked the team�s 12th consecutive 20-win season.

     Bauer, a Stevens Point native who attended Stevens Point Area Senior High, ranked second on the team and 10th in the league with a .354 batting average while starting all 41 games. Bauer ranked second in the WIAC with 12 doubles and struck out just four times in 142 plate appearances.

     Anderson, who attended Milwaukee King High School, was one of the top pitching and hitting combination players in the league, batting for a .351 average and ranking third in the league with a 1.05 earned run average. She had a team-leading five home runs and 20 RBI�s, while also ranking second in the league with 12 doubles. On the mound, Anderson was fourth in the league with 99 strikeouts along with just 29 walks in 113 innings pitched.

     Jablonski, a former Stevens Point Area Senior High standout, had one of the best freshman seasons in school history with the second-lowest single-season earned run average in league history at 0.59. She also set a school record with just 12 walks in 133 innings pitched, while also registering 81 strikeouts and eight shutouts.

     Feidt, a Kimberly native, hit .309 with eight doubles and 15 RBI�s. She was also one of the top defensive second basemen in the league with a .962 fielding percentage, committing just eight errors in 213 chances.

     Zierler, a Kaukauna native, led the team and ranked ninth in the league with a .358 average. She totaled 11 RBI�s and had just three errors at third base while posting a .952 fielding percentage.

     UW-Superior�s Sarah Tarasewicz was named the league�s Position Player of the Year and UW-Oshkosh�s Ronessa Stampfli was the Pitcher of the Year. UW-Eau Claire�s Leslie Huntington was the Coach of the Year.
