Pointers Remain Perfect Against Minnesota Opponents

UW-Stevens Point remained perfect against the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in the 2001 season with a 4-2 victory over St. Benedict Saturday at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.

The Pointers, ranked third in the NCAA Division III rankings and first in the Central Region, have now won 19 of their last 20 matches and are 3-0 this season with all three wins over MIAC opponents. St. Benedict (2-1) is ranked fifth in the region.

UW-Stevens Point jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals by Jenny Bruce at 16:45 and Molly Cady with an assist from Bruce at the 26:45 mark.

St. Benedict rallied with a goal in the final two minutes of the first half and then scored again 16 minutes into the second half to tie the game.

However, UW-Stevens Point rallied just seven minutes later when Bruce fed Kelly Fink for a goal at the 68:20 mark. Freshman Megan Frey added the final scoring with a goal at the 77:30 mark.

UW-Stevens Point outshot the Blazers 27-19 and Pointers goalie Brianna Hyslop had 10 saves.

The Pointers open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday when they host UW-La Crosse at 4 p.m.
