UW-Eau Claire 3, UW-Whitewater 1

Blasczyk's Second Half Goals Lead Blugolds Over Warhawks

Kari Blasczyk scored two second half goals to break a halftime deadlock and lead UW-Eau Claire past UW-Whitewater 3-1 in the semifinals of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament at the Pointer Soccer Bowl in Stevens Point.

The third-seeded Blugolds will make their sixth title match appearance Saturday at 1 p.m. UW-Eau Claire (15-4) will meet UW-Stevens Point (17-4), which has beaten the Blugolds in all five of their previous title match appearances.

UW-Whitewater (13-5-2) took an early lead 16:58 into the match when Bryn Wagner lofted a high shot from 25 yards out that sailed over the head of Blugolds' goalie Chandra Butterfield. The Blugolds evened the match at the 34:42 mark on a goal by Tina Welle and then, like UW-Stevens Point in the earlier semifinal, used a strong second half wind to take control.

The Blugolds outshot the Warhawks 28-9 for the match, including a 19-5 advantage in the second half. Kari Blasczyk finally got the Blugolds on the board, putting in a rebound of a shot by Erika Thompson that deflected off the head of Nikki Johnston at the 67:55 mark.

Blasczyk scored again at the 83:43 mark off a cross by Andrea VandenHeuvel to account for the final scoring.

Bonny Bodis made 12 saves for the Warhawks and Chandra Butterfield stopped six shots for UW-Eau Claire.
