Players of the Week � Apr. 11

Baseball - Position Player

Chuck Brehm (Spencer, WI/Spencer) - The junior leftfielder smashed a grand slam home run on back-to-back days to help extend the Pointers winning streak to 10 games. Brehm went four-for-five in Saturday's second game against UW-Platteville, totaling seven RBIs, a double and two home runs, including a seventh inning grand slam. He matched his feat in the second game on Sunday hitting another grand slam in the fourth. For the week, Brehm hit .520 (13-for-25) at the plate, smashing four doubles and four home runs. He scored 11 runs, had 16 runs batted in and accumulated a slugging percentage of 1.160.

Baseball - Pitcher

Matt Polomis (Wausaukee, WI/Wausaukee) - The senior lefthanded pitcher made his first career start memorable by shutting down St. Norbert on just two hits in a 13-2 victory on Tuesday. Polomis limited the Green Knights to just a pair of solo home runs. Polomis struck out four and needed just 66 pitches to earn the eight-inning, complete game victory. Prior to this start, Polomis had just 2.2 innings pitched in his career.

Softball - Position Player

Rebekah Bauer (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) - The junior leftfielder went four-for-four to lead the Pointers to a 7-2 victory over UW-Platteville in their Thursday doubleheader. All four of Bauer's hits were singles, with two of them driving in runs. In the second game Bauer picked up a double and a stolen base. For the week, Bauer was five-for-eight at the plate, with a double, three RBIs and two stolen bases.

Softball - Pitcher

Kelly Jablonski (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) - The freshman pitcher earned a victory over UW-Platteville last Thursday, limiting the Pioneers to seven hits over seven innings. Jablonski struck out four hitters in claiming the WIAC opener for the Pointers.

Men's Track Events

Bryan Buechel (New Holstein, WI/New Holstein) - The junior sprinter won two individual events and ran on both relays in the Coldman Invitational hosted by UW-Stevens Point. Buechel outran 51 competitors in the 200-meter run, winning in 22.92 seconds. He also claimed first in the triple jump covering 13.24 meters (43' 5.25''). Buechel and his teammates placed second in the 4x400 meter relay and third in the 4x100 meter relay.

Men's Field Events

Kent Hutchinson (Green Bay, WI/Preble) - The junior recorded three top-three finishes at the Coldman Invitational in Stevens Point. His best finish of the day was in the triple jump, where he placed second with a lead of 13.06 meters (42' 10.25''). Hutchinson placed third in both the javelin throw, with a toss of 47.77 meters (156' 9''), and the long jump, covering 6.62 meters (21' 8.75''). He also took sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.89 meters (6' 2.25'').

Women's Track Events

Jenna Mitchler (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) - The junior led from start to finish in the 5,000 meter run at UW-Stevens Point's Coldman Invitational. Mitchler paced the field of 27 runners in a time of 17:51.67, as her and teammate Teresa Stanley took the first two places. The Pointers took fourth place of 14 teams at the invite.

Women's Field Events

Kateley Haberman (Whitewater, WI/Whitwater) - The freshman set a new school record in the pole vault at the Coldman Invitational in Stevens Point. Haberman cleared 3.38 meters (11' 1'') to break Katie Eiring's record from the 2000 season of 11' 0.25''. She finished third at the meet and her jump surpassed the provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships.
